Inspiring Women: Karen from French Consul
Why did you start your business?A major wake up call hit me in April 2017 following the passing of my father. One of the last things Dad asked me to do the day before he died was to see more of the world and to never give up. Feeling stuck in my career, I quit my job with no job to go to. I flew to Paris solo and unknowingly, the idea for my business French Consul began. When I couldn’t find the linen grain sack stripe tablecloth and cushions, or the antique versions, I love in France, coupled with a longing to keep the calm and beauty I felt in France a constant in my life, I began the task of developing my own fabric and homewares collection.

Most of the big retail companies will ride this out but so many of the little guys need our support now more than ever. I would love to see more people valuing well made, quality products that support artisan makers and independent stores whether that’s through buying their product online or engaging with their brands through social media.
