Lucca Laedership

30th Jan 2009

I am back and ready for 2009! After doing a Lucca leadership course in January I have started the year off well. As Lucca is my nominated charity this season to donate to, I thought I would find out more about the work they are doing.

Held at Mahratta house, an Art Deco house with gorgeous gardens in the North of Sydney, it reminded me of yesteryear. There were 30 participants, all ranging from 16-30 from Vietnam, East Timor, Philippines, Singapore, Sth Africa and Australia. Each person had been accepted into the programme due to their commitment to making a difference.

It has been a long time since I have slept in bunk beds, let alone shared a room with 5 other girls, so I walked into the room with a small amount of trepidation. Boy was I wrong. Each night was like a slumber party where we all chatted till we fell asleep, listened to music and discussed the very important topic of what to wear tomorrow.

As a group we sang songs of freedom, rather than the latest Brittany Spears. What was most inspiring to me were the people. Every single person had a vision; from the participants, coaches and course directors. So often the media portrays gen Y as brash party loving youths, yet here were international gen y spending a week of their holidays to learn to be better leaders. The week covered a range of topics all linked to transformational leadership. With a mixture of group discussions, team tasks and individual time looking at intention, communication and awareness; all serious topics but done with fun and laughter. This was a week I will never forget ever.

I received my garments on Friday and I just wanted to thank you so much. They are lovely, the Shelly pants and Balmoral jacket fit perfectly! ...
